For a Stag weekend with a difference head to the frozen north. No, not Bolton – we are talking about Reykjavik – capital of Iceland and one of the liveliest and most interesting cities you are ever likely to visit. Also, after the recent economic crisis, the Króna has weakened so now is an especially good time to visit.
Situated just below the Arctic circle, what the city lacks in terms of agreeable climate it makes up for in virtually every other conceivable way. About the size of Cambridge this stunning city is situated in the middle of the pristine wilderness that makes up most of the rest of the country. You are assured of a warm welcome as Icelanders are delighted by tourists – handy when you are approaching one of the legion of blue-eyed beauties who call the city home.
Reykjavik is famous for its nightlife and the city is crammed with bars, clubs and seriously high class strip joints. Things rarely gets going until late in the evening so don’t be surprised if you are the only people in the pub at 7 pm, but by midnight the streets will be packed with young, riotous Icelanders intent on having a good time.
Next day, to soothe your aching head make sure you pay a visit to one of the many geothermal swimming pools that are dotted around the city. These are outdoors but once you are in a ‘hot-pot’ you will be enjoying the warm springs that Iceland is famous for. Other activities include whale watching, real 4×4 driving and white water rafting.
Reykjavik is truly spectacular – so pack your Stag bags and head north!
