Located on the "English Riviera", Torquay is one of the most popular seaside resorts in the UK. It has a picturesque harbour and nine beaches nearby - three of them have European Blue Flags - an indication of their high standards of water quality and beach facilities. With its own warm micro-climate, it's a great launching pad for outdoor activities like coasteering, kayaking and abseiling - or simply relaxing on the beach.
Other claims to fame include the Gleneagles Hotel which was where John Cleese found the inspiration for Fawlty Towers. Torquay is also birthplace to an unusual number of glamour models and erotic actresses like Lauren Pope, Natasha Mealey and Layla Jade. Make of that what you will.
The town comes alive after dark and there are lots of cracking harbourside pubs, restaurants and clubs.
