Edinburgh Castle dominates this city from its position atop Castle Rock. It stands upon the basalt plug of an extinct volcano and lends the city a uniquely dramatic atmosphere. In the absence of any volcanic eruptions, Edinburgh's red hot nightlife provides all the excitement this city needs.
There's no shortage of Stag weekend activities in and around Edinburgh. Of course, you could pay homage to the birthplace of golf and play a few rounds here. As you might expect, Edinburgh boasts some of the best courses in the world. If you fancy an alternative outdoor adventure, why not grab your flat cap and hunting jacket and shoot some clay pigeons? This being a Stag weekend, you may want to get some adrenalin pumping around your veins instead with a white water rafting experience. Scotland has some excellent grade 3 to 5+ rapids (5 is pretty challenging).
Edinburgh is bursting with charm and history so don't forget to spend some time just walking around and soaking up the sights and sounds (sounds come mostly from busking bagpipers). If you plan to be there in August then you can experience the largest arts festival in the world - The Edinburgh Fringe and the Edinburgh International Festival. This is the place to be for a fantastic variety of theatre, comedy, children's shows, dance, physical theatre, musicals, operas, all genres of music, exhibitions, and events. Beware though - prices at this time of the year go crazy.
No Edinburgh Stag weekend would be complete without sampling a dram from the home of the world's finest whisky. One way to do this is to order a fine Scotch in one of Edinburgh's many bars or pubs. For the full monty, get yourselves down to The Scotch Whisky Experience where you will get an insight into the world of Scotch Whisky and taste the "water of life". So what are you waiting for, get the Stag a kilt to wear and head for Bonnie Scotland!
